Giving to the Department of Linguistics
Linguistics courses have been taught at the University of Kansas since 1957. The Linguistics Department, founded in 1967, is the only linguistics department in a five-state region, including Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Arkansas. Our faculty are not only recognized experts in their fields of specialization but dedicated teachers and mentors at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well.
To maintain and enhance the quality of our programs and facilities over the coming years, the Linguistics Department will increasingly depend on substantial support beyond what the State of Kansas can provide. The primary beneficiaries of your contribution will be our students. Specifically, your donation will be used for student support. This includes funding student travel to regional and national conferences, inviting speakers to campus, and purchasing specialized books and software.
You may make a tax-deductible donation online by using the buttons below. Online giving is secure, speedy and simple and will have an immediate impact on our students. Click the area you would like to support and you will be redirected to the website of KU Endowment, the non-profit fundraising organization that supports KU. For information on other ways to give, please visit the KU Endowment website. Or for information on other opportunities to assist the Department, please contact:

We are grateful for all donations to Linguistics, both from our loyal annual contributors as well as from occasional donors.
Linguistics Department Award
Our highest fundraising priority is to build our unrestricted General Endowment Fund. This fund will allow us to support student travel to scholarly meetings, invite prominent linguists to deliver lectures on campus, and purchase books, software and other educational resources.
Frances Ingemann Linguistics Scholarship
This scholarship, formerly known as the Linguistics Scholarship, was initially funded by Professor Ingemann and serves to partially support an outstanding graduate student in Linguistics. In the future, we hope that this fund will grow sufficiently to fully support one or more graduate students for a year.
Wendy Herd Graduate Student Support Award
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Kansas would like to announce a scholarship for graduate students that will honor Dr. Wendy Herd, a 2011 graduate of our Ph.D. program. Wendy passed away on August 11, 2020 after battling cancer for many years. The goal of this scholarship is to honor her energy, intellect, and strength and to keep her spirit with us always. To contribute to this award, click on ‘Give Now’ below. You will be directed to the KU Endowment page for Linguistics. In the box marked Special Instructions, please indicate that your award should go to the ‘Wendy Herd Graduate Student Support Award.’
