Tuesday, July 18, 2017

"Professor Joan Sereno has joined a very select group of outstanding teaching professors at KU: She has been awarded a Chancellors Club Teaching Professorship. This award recognizes excellence in teaching and is given only to persons who have demonstrated outstanding teaching over a period of years. Most students remember Prof. Sereno from LING 110 “Language and Mind”. With enrollments growing from 15 students per year to 300 students per semester, Prof. Sereno is hailed as highly knowledgeable, engaging, funny, and enthusiastic. Prof. Sereno also regularly teaches “Psycholinguistics” which she re-designed to include a hands-on weekly laboratory section where students gather their own data, put forth hypotheses, and compare their data to what they learned in lecture. Prof. Sereno has served on more than 100 graduate and undergraduate student committees. The Chancellors Club Teaching Professorship is awarded for a five-year term and carries an annual salary supplement of $10,000."
